Microtechnology, electronics and microelectronics

In innovation-dependent niche markets, companies need the support of intellectual property experts who fully understand the ins and outs of their business.

Switzerland in general and the Jura region in particular are brimming over with companies that are highly specialised in microtechnology and electronics. These companies are often active in high value-added niche sectors, which allows them to offset labour costs and the strong Swiss franc. But in order to maintain their margins, they have to develop unique technologies and give them ironclad intellectual property protection.

These are complex fields, often at the crossroad between hardware and software. Effectively protecting inventions requires both advanced technical know-how and excellent knowledge of the industry. And because developing complex electronic systems often involves several companies and high schools, clearly defining the intellectual property of each of the parties is all the more crucial.

P&TS was founded in Neuchâtel – a hub of microtechnology in Switzerland – and we have longstanding expertise in this innovation-dependent industry. Our large team of experts comprises patent attorneys together with engineers and researchers in physics, electronics and microtechnology. They are highly qualified individuals, with many having previously worked at the European Patent Office, the Swiss Federal Institute of Intellectual Property or in the electronics industry itself.

Our team covers a broad scope of innovation in the areas of electronics and microtechnology, including in some cutting-edge fields:

  • Low-power electronics, including RF receivers, GPS receivers, analogue and digital modulators, channel coding, CMOS circuits, screens, tactile devices
  • Power electronics, including EMC filters, power converters, engine control
  • Memories, including static, dynamic and magnetic
  • Metrology
  • Sensors, including inductive, capacitive, resistive, magnetoresistive, inertial, chemical, piezoelectric, light, biological, matrix and image sensors
  • Mechanical and electronic watchmaking
  • Photovoltaic systems
  • Optical systems
  • Medtech, medical devices, orthopaedics, orthodontics
  • Surface treatment, including PVD and DLC coatings
  • Microfabrication, including photolithographic processes, etching, LIGA and microelectromechanical systems (MEMS)
  • Stepper motors and control modules
  • Avionics instruments for flight control and monitoring engine components
  • Embedded systems such as ABS and ESC
